At JSMS & JCLC, we are committed to fostering growth and lifelong learning for our staff. Supported by our Healthy Development Fund, we actively encourage participation in professional development opportunities. Whether it’s attending workshops, pursuing certifications, or exploring new strategies, we aim to empower our team with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive and make a lasting impact in education. Together, we grow to inspire our students and community!
JSMS takes great pride in their Teacher Induction Program. A variety of information is provided, and a range of topics are covered in an engaging, hands-on format to ensure new teachers have the knowledge and resources needed to begin the school year. Newly hired teachers will have the opportunity to begin their induction by attending a five-day induction session. Throughout the school year, the JSMS TEAM and school board consultants continue to provide ongoing support to teachers.
Team-building activities are more than just events—they are opportunities to deepen a sense of belonging, celebrate culture, and foster a supportive community among our staff. These activities are especially valuable, as they help address the unique challenges of working in a remote environment. Activities like Fire Talks and Cultural Induction Days honor and draw from the rich traditions of the local community, promoting respect and understanding. Weekend outings, such as fishing and hiking, provide time to relax and connect in the breathtaking northern landscape, while team meals offer a space for shared stories and camaraderie. Additionally, workshops and volunteering in initiatives like the Breakfast Club enhance teamwork and align our efforts with the needs of our students. Together, these activities cultivate a workplace culture grounded in collaboration, cultural respect, and shared purpose.
At JSMS/JCLC, we cultivate an environment of continuous learning, collaboration, and growth for all team members. We prioritize staying informed about best practices while regularly reflecting on both individual and collective progress. Professional development is woven into the fabric of our school life, and actively embraced by school administrators. Our staff is encouraged to share insights, seek constructive feedback, and engage in training aligned with the school’s goals and the needs of our students. This commitment to ongoing professional growth enhances both staff effectiveness and student success, fostering a dynamic and innovative educational community.
Moreover, the school board provides cutting edge professional development to empower administrators, teachers, professionals, and support staff in becoming effective leaders, educators, and engaged members, all contributing to ensure students achieve success. Educational Services (Instructional and Complementary) has a team of nine competent pedagogical consultants. Throughout the year, they provide a wide range of support either in the form of workshops or by going to our school to work directly with school teams and individuals.
