“I am sincerely honoured to be the Principal of The Naskapi School, where our goal is to cultivate an inclusive and culturally proud learning environment, that fosters personal growth for all. As a school community we have embraced the local expression, ᐅᔅᑯᐎᑕᐤ, to express that we firmly believe that by working together, we can equip our students with essential life skills and to thrive in their educational journey. The unique talents and diversity within our school team provide all learners with a rich educational experience, empowering them to reach new heights. I hope that through this path, both our students and staff will not only grow but gain a deeper understanding of the community and its culture and heritage.”
Joseph Whelan – School Principal
“When I decided to immigrate to Canada, JSMS was one of the first opportunities to continue my passion for teaching. I was amazed at how the CQSB and JSMS authorities arranged my relocation effortlessly. I joined the organization in 2022, and since then, I have always been welcomed by the school staff, students and community members. As a newcomer, it was a tough decision, but the solution to all my problems was just a discussion away with my supervisors and the people in my surroundings. I am glad and thankful that I joined JSMS with wonderful people constantly around me. I feel at home here.“

“I came to JSMS in 2016 and I stayed till 2018, then returned in 2019. I missed the students, staff, and community when I left for that year. When I came back, it felt like coming home again. I love teaching the students here and my roles have changed through the years and allowed me to work with our whole student population. It has been rewarding and taught me so much and helped me grow as a teacher. I wouldn’t change this experience one little bit, except maybe leaving for that year, I should have stayed.”
